Lesson 3 – This Is Why The 1% Succeed – Will You Be One Of Them?
Today I want to talk about the one thing that is responsible
for success or failure at anything – online or offline.
It’s so vitally important to your success and yet it is ignored
or deliberately not spoken about by the majority of business
coaches.
The reason that it is so rarely discussed is, I believe, because
it’s not what the majority of people want to hear about.
It doesn’t sell products, it doesn’t make them lots of money so they
prefer to sell what people think they want.
What is this vitally important ingredient to your success?
Let me guess what what you’re thinking it is.
Did you think it could be traffic – visitors to your website or offer? That’s certainly important, without visitors to promote our offers to we have no-one to sell anything to and so that would contribute to failure.
Maybe you were thinking it could be not having our own sales funnel that would be the reason for so many failing.
Or maybe lack of knowledge, not being a technical geek could be the answer. Certainly a lot of people think they need to be super technical to make a living online.
Whilst all of these reasons are perfectly understandable, non of them are the real reason for failure.
In fact the real reason for success or failure in anything, be that online or offline is something far more important than any of these.
The reason is MINDSET.
Now let me say straight away that this is something that the majority of people don’t want to hear which is why it is rarely spoken about in any course or training about online success.
People are more receptive to hearing about tricks and techniques for making quick income which is why most marketers online focus on them – they sell.
But if you will just hold back your natural desire to rush off to find another sure-fire method for making quick cash you will put yourself in that top 1% that succeed.
I am a huge believer that a persons mindset is the major determining factor when it comes to success at anything.
You only have to study any successful individual and you will quickly see that they believed in themselves. They had belief that they would succeed even when there was no sign of success at the beginning.
Since the launch of “The Secret” video which brought the work of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich to people’s attention a lot more people have started to be more open to the potential of having the right mindset.
So let me ask you – do you really believe that you will succeed in achieving your goals? Think about that for a moment. Do you REALLY believe?
The thing is this, if you are in any way doubtful about whether you’ll succeed then when the obstacles come along, as they surely will from time to time, your self-doubt will take over and you’ll quit.
Or you’ll abandon what you were working on and jump off to another ‘bright shiny object’ that promises immediate riches.
Please believe me, I know how tempting it is to jump onto anything that promises quick cash when you’re desperate to find a way of paying the bills. I’ve been there and can testify that these things just put you further back than you were in the first place.
There have been times over my years online when if I had just stuck to a proven plan I’d have seen success a lot quicker.
So I hope you take the time to read this lesson and apply it. It will be the basis of everything you do from now on. I’m not saying that it will always be easy, it won’t. But the right mindset will help pull you back into action when things get tough.
OK, let’s get you started on the right track.
I want you to do whatever it takes to believe that you will succeed. I want you to have complete confidence that this is going to work. Believe you will succeed and you will.
There’s a saying, that I think is wrong, that goes – I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ll believe I can get more sales when I see it or I’ll believe I’ll make money when I see it coming in or whatever.
That’s wrong in my opinion.
I say – I’ll see it when I believe it.
There are lots of books that can help you build your self-belief that can be downloaded from the Internet. You could start with Think and Grow Rich. If you type that into Google you will find places to download it for free.
Some people that I’ve followed over the years that have really helped me are Brian Tracy, Bob Proctor and T Harv Eker. You will find lots of their material on the web also.
The next thing you must do is think big. Most of us don’t allow ourselves to think big enough. Learn to raise your horizon. Harv Eker says shoot for the stars, if you miss you may still hit the moon.
Allow yourself to think bigger than you’re used to doing and believe deep down that you will achieve your goals.
Have a positive mental attitude. I learned a long time ago from one of my mentors that it isn’t what happens to us in life that determines our outcomes – it’s how we react to what happens that is key.
It’s very easy to get upset when things don’t go the way we expect. It’s important to develop an attitude of acceptance of what happens and keep going.
I remember the story of Thomas Edison when he was developing the light bulb. He just looked upon each attempt as one more way that didn’t work rather than a failure.
I have ‘failed’ many times over the years but didn’t let it stop me from learning from it and trying another way.
Decide what your goals are and write them down. Writing down your goals has a major impact on your success or failure in achieving them.
There was a well known experiment done at Harvard which was reported in Mark McCormak’s book “What they don’t teach you at the Harvard business school”
In 1979, interviewers asked new graduates from the Harvard’s MBA Program and found that :
- 84% had no specific goals at all
- 13% had goals but they were not committed to paper
- 3% had clear, written goals and plans to accomplish them
In 1989, the interviewers again interviewed the graduates of that class. You can guess the results:
- The 13% of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84 percent who had no goals at all.
- Even more staggering – the three percent who had clear, written goals were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together.
The evidence is clear – write down your goals.
Take action.
One of the criticisms of The Secret was that it gave the impression that all we have to do is visualize our goals and they will come true.
Not so – sorry. We need to take action on our goals to bring them into fruition. I like what T Harv Eker says that he’s been meditating and practicing The Secret for over 25 years and still hasn’t had a bag of money drop on his head. He has to actually do something to make it happen.
So there you have it. Since you’re still reading this I want to thank you for getting this far.
Set your goals and write them down. Print them out and place them where you can see them every day. Put them up next to your computer, by your bed so you can read them night and morning. Put them anywhere that reminds you of what you’re shooting for and read them out aloud if possible.
Tomorrow I’ll be talking about fast money versus slow money and why the distinction is important.
Until then,
Dream big and take action.
Kindest regards,
Trevor
P.S. There are many truly inspiring examples of people who’s unshakeable belief in their goals allowed them to overcome enormous obstacles. Here’s just one that may help you with yours;
